Batan

Helping Create Sustainable Communities

You clicked because you care. We share a common quality and that is to improve communities and increase effectiveness while reducing the need for physical and mental health crisis in the long term . Buying a carbon offset is the key to help communities strive sustainably.

Batan is a digital carbon emissions offsetting system that addresses our increasing concern with climate change.

With Batan, individuals are able to take responsibility for their own lifestyles and offset their carbon emissions by acquiring carbon offsets. Guided by an expert advisory board, each batan represents one tonne of emissions credits.

The average UK person’s yearly carbon footprint is estimated at eight tonnes. Obtain eight Batans and you will have successfully offset your carbon footprint for a whole year.

Batan - Offset and Cancel Emission Permits

The Batan community is an active network that takes environmental issues seriously

and aims to be part of the solution to curb climate change.

Being part of this community enables you to manage your carbon footprint.

Here is why you should care:

Humans contribute to climate change by releasing carbon dioxide and other “greenhouse gases” (even more detrimental to our climate) into the atmosphere because of our daily activities.

Collectively, our civilisation emits unsustainable amounts of these gases. Unless we stop, the world will become an increasingly unpleasant home for us – we have all witnessed the horrific effects of extreme weather events and animal extinctions.

Here is why you should join:

From London to New Delhi, together we can reduce air pollution and improve people’s livelihood. Together we can tackle worldwide carbon and greenhouse gas pollution. Together we can offset our global emissions until the time we stop relying on fossil fuels and adopt new technologies and lead more environmentally friendly lifestyles.

The only way to stop climate change is to stop emitting greenhouse gases (GHG) by reducing our consumption to the minimum and by living as green a life as we can. We need to change our lifestyle, but this cannot happen overnight. As we aspire to reach a more sustainable way of living, we need to fight climate change by reducing and removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. The ultimate solution to climate change is for each of us to become carbon neutral.

How can we become carbon neutral when we rely on electricity and energy in our everyday lives?

CONSUMING = EMITTING CO2

Members of the Batan community aim to be carbon neutral. We all aware of the challenges – consuming is part of our reality. Now, you too can be part of the solution.

We emit carbon as we go about our everyday lives – we release greenhouse gases heating our homes, switching on lights, consuming goods and food and travelling.

Reducing our carbon footprint is critical for our health and the health of the planet. Batan community members try their utmost to consume smart and consume less (purchasing only essentials in order to make less impact on the planet).

Why did we create Batan?

Although there is a clear link between human activity and climate change and a better understanding of the dangers of GHG emissions, nothing has been resolved. Year after year, environmental protocols and treaties are signed but with little tangible success.

Collective action is growing. The SILENT movement is gaining increased support and momentum. More of us recycle, reduce and reuse. We purchase hybrid or electric vehicles, install solar panels, choose green energy suppliers, purchase local food. We believe that our actions will become more and more visible and have a real impact on climate change.

Environmental engagement has now passed from the mouths of politicians to the hands of the people. Almost everyone – from politicians, institutions, single activists and thinkers to the public, champions sustainable living. But we walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

Gone is the time when we could wait and rely on governments and corporations to act. Batan puts the climate change action firmly in the hands of people rather than institutions.

We are all part of the problem, so let us all be part of the solution by going the extra mile and putting our money where our mouths are.

Be part of the Solution

We can look to reduce our emissions by reconsidering how much energy we consume and which products we buy. But this is not enough. Going the extra mile means supporting programs that reduce carbon emissions, and help countries adopt renewable energy and conserve forests.

When you join us and get batans you become part of the climate change solution. You support emission reduction programmes and become carbon neutral.

Our members’ zero-carbon lifestyle is only possible when they get batans and offset their carbon footprint, meaning that they take out of the atmosphere as many tonnes of carbon as they put in.

Our members not only reduce their own emissions, they go further by automatically offsetting 1 tonne of carbon each month. Each month they remove 1 tonne of carbon out of the atmosphere (12 tonnes of carbon a year). This means that we contribute more, as opposed to simply compensating for our average carbon footprint. The average carbon footprint in the UK is 8 tonnes per person per year.

Batan members have the opportunity to offset the CO2 they put into the atmosphere, by either making a one-off purchase or opting for a monthly subscription. The minimum offset is 1 tonne of carbon every month (there is no maximum).

Collectively, we can make a difference with batans. If just 5% of the population remove 10 tonnes of emissions each year, we will halve the rate of global emissions within 5 years.

What is batan?

Batan is a basket that broadly represents the world’s main emission reduction programmes.

These programmes work by funding projects that reduce emissions or by forcing emitters to reduce their output every year. Our company, Batan Ltd supports these worldwide programs by purchasing “avoided emissions” units from renewable energy, forest, energy efficient cookstoves, waste management, water or soil-based carbon sequestration projects. Additionally, Batan Ltd buys emissions rights and cancels them.

All of these programs are verified and certified to ensure they successfully reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

Batans are digital certificates that prove that you have negated your carbon footprint.

Obtaining batans and offsetting carbon emissions also provides great tangible social and economic benefits.

Some of the funds generated help develop local communities by improving infrastructure, food security, livelihoods and reducing rural poverty. For example, the clean cookstoves project provides imminent benefits. Almost 45% of the world’s population cook on open fires, resulting in extreme pollution as well as health hazards.

Some of the funding is used to encourage industrial companies to stop emitting carbon leading to a reduction of anthropogenic climate change.

Voluntary carbon offsets reduce Co2 emissions and support communities in the developing world for a sustainable future.

Environmentalists want “offsetting done well”, Batan gives you the opportunity to do exactly that.

It’s time to consume smart, buy what you need, but get offsets to save the planet.
